Nothing you make is quite standard.
Illuminated signs, fascias, totems, wayfinding, shopfronts, vehicle graphics, large-format print.
The enquiry says “same as last time but two meters wider.” Which means a new profile length, a different substrate, a change to the fixings, and possibly a different installation method. Someone has to work all of that out before anyone can say a number.
Signage sits at the awkward end of manufacturing. The catalogue exists, but almost nothing gets sold exactly as catalogued. Dimensions, materials, illumination, mounting and installation all move, and every combination has a different cost.
What we build cuts profiles to length at runtime rather than picking from pre-modelled variants, so a size nobody has ordered before is still a valid product. Rules stop a specification the workshop can’t fabricate. And the parts usually estimated by eye material take-off, wastage, and the cost to ship something long and awkward.

Delivered: A Belgian signage manufacturer with 22 customisable categories. Quoting moved from two days to ten minutes, with 3D and AR visualisation, automatic bill of materials, and an optimised packing list including per-carton weights. Separately, an LED estimator converting design artwork directly into layout and production documentation.

Specify it wrong and you find out
eighteen months later.
LED modules and strips, illuminated signage, architectural lighting, displays, drivers and control systems.
A customer wants a particular brightness over a particular area. That determines module count, spacing, driver selection, power distribution, thermal behavior and cable runs and the failure mode for getting it wrong is a warranty claim two years out, not a return next week.
LED is a domain where the specification is genuinely technical and the customer usually isn't. The person who understands power budgets and thermal derating is an engineer, and the person taking the enquiry is in sales. Everything queues behind that gap.
We build the engineering into the specification. Layout generated from the artwork or the area, module counts and spacing calculated rather than estimated, power supplies sized correctly instead of over-provisioned "to be safe," and combinations that would fail simply unavailable to select.
The commercial effect is twofold: sales can specify without an engineer, and the over-provisioning that quietly inflates every bill of materials stops.
Delivered: An LED estimator that traces design artwork, plots module positions, calculates power requirements and produces production ready documentation replacing manual tracing and hand calculated power sizing. For a European LED manufacturer, an online configurator letting customers specify and price their own systems, with the rules guaranteeing buildability.
When one mispriced quote
costs you a quarter.
Special-purpose machinery, control panels and switchgear, structural steel, metal buildings, rigging and load-bearing structures, plant and equipment.
Every serious enquiry goes through engineering before it reaches the customer. Only two or three people are trusted to price a complex variant. The quote takes a week, and if the margin was wrong you carry that error through months of production.
This is where configuration matters most and is attempted least, because the stakes make people cautious. Order values are high, cycles are long, and the cost of a specification error is measured in months rather than in a return shipment.
The pattern we see repeatedly: a modular system that grew over twenty years, with sales logic that never grew alongside it. Nobody can say with confidence which combination of options is technically valid, buildable and correctly costed so everything routes through engineering, and engineering becomes the bottleneck on revenue.
What we build handles genuine engineer-to-order and make-to-order work rather than requiring you to restructure your range first. Geometry-driven pricing, multi-level bills of materials, structural rules embedded in the configuration so what's quoted can actually be built, and cut lists that go straight to the floor.

Delivered: A metal building manufacturer's configurator, cutting quote generation from four to five hours down to two to ten minutes. A custom rigging and structures configurator in the United States, with load and span rules built into the specification. And our first client, in 2012 an electrical control panel manufacturer running entirely on paper, whose system still runs today.

The deadline cannot move.
Modular stand systems, textile frames, portable displays, retail and event structures, reusable booth hardware.
A customer wants a stand for a show in six weeks. They can’t read a plan, so a designer has to visualise it before anyone can price it. The designer has a queue. The show doesn’t.
Exhibition manufacturing has a constraint most sectors don't: an absolutely fixed date. Everything compresses toward it, and the specification stage the part that needs a designer is where the time goes.
Modular systems make this worse before they make it better. The whole point is that components combine in many ways, which is precisely what a customer can't reason about from a catalogue. Wide ranges, tool-free assembly, and a customer who still can't work out what to order.
We build the visual and the validity together: 3D configuration the customer understands directly, compatibility rules that prevent combinations which won't physically assemble, the bill of materials generated automatically, and for manufacturers selling across borders pricing, VAT and delivery correct for the country ordering.
Delivered: A Dutch manufacturer of modular exhibition stands and textile frames, selling across several European markets. A multilingual configurator with live compatibility checking, regional pricing and VAT, and ERP inventory integration moving specification from the sales team to the customer.
The site decides the yield.
And the site is never simple.
Panel and mounting manufacturers, EPC contractors, installer networks, rooftop and utility-scale planning.
Someone visits the site. A designer rebuilds it in Google Earth and mocks up a layout. An engineer calculates capacity. A project manager assembles the numbers for management. Each handoff is a week, and the investment decision waits for all four.
Solar is unusual among the sectors we work in because the product's performance depends on where it's installed. Roof geometry, orientation, neighbouring buildings, tree canopy all of it changes what a given panel position will actually produce. That makes the specification a modelling problem, not a selection problem.
We build planners that read the real site from satellite and map data, model shading from surrounding structures and vegetation, and compute what each position will genuinely yield. From that single model comes the layout, the yield estimate, the bill of materials down to panels, inverters and mounting hardware, the quote, and the customer proposal.
And then the question the other four teams were only ever assembling an answer to: what does this return, when does it pay back, and is it worth the investment?

Delivered: A field planner for a multinational solar manufacturer, replacing a four-team process with a single session including satellite-based shading analysis and ROI modelling for management decisions. The same engine now sits with their EPC partners for residential projects, so an installer can produce a shaded, costed, ROI-backed proposal from a customer's address.
